And I'm speaking only for my own posts, nobody else's.

You use the word "appears" a lot. Yet we have been hammered with demands for resignations up and down the line, as though all the evidence was in, all the i's dotted and t's crossed.

Foley is gone. Gone. Resigned in disgrace, and under legal investigation.

Given the stories I have read, it is utterly impossible to believe that of everyone in Congress, only Republicans knew about him. Think about that for a while, and remember how well the "Culture of Corruption" thing worked after corrupt Democrats started getting flushed out by the bird dogs.

The Democrats were hoping Foley would try to hang on, so they could flay him alive, but he left the building, and the Democrats were forced to attack others in Congress, particularly Hastert, to make their political points. Right now, the whole thing is fizzling out and they're trying to redirect the attacks to some financial thing.

The Democrats are on the losing end of almost every major national issue right now. Economics, national security, and the rest. They have to gin up something to make a stink, and this was it. They hoped it would give them a free seat in the House, and as a bonus, turn off the Republican base. Incidentally, polls are showing that isn't working either. A consistent blind spot in Democrats is their unshakable belief that Republicans are all idiots.

This is politics. Pure politics. And the moral indignation being marshalled by the Democratic Party is, on the evidence of all their previous behavior, completely fake.
