What is the primary function of the military establishment? How would you gauge their performance?
On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you put "winning wars"?
The military could have "won" this war against a ragtag third-world country if the military had been allowed to fight it's battles. As Colin Powell says, if you are going to fight a war you go in with overwhelming force and win.
Period.

That's funny. I suppose you could say that the lawns are well manicured on the bases, the barracks are painted nicely, Runsfeld's office has been redecorated, his private dining room has a great chef and there hasn't been an escape from Guantanamo.
All of which seems to lag behind winning wars against third-world countries, wouldn't you say?
