Tom, Tom, Tom. We've already won the war in Iraq. What we've failed on is the subsequent occupation. Notice I said failed and not failing. It's past the point of no return now. We're too hated by too many Iraqi people and I didn't say a majority. That's simply not necessary. It's only necessary that the haters be numerous enough and sufficiently armed to continue inflicting damage on us and blending in with the general population. All they have to continue to do is ensure that their numbers don't dwindle and that's a pretty easy task in a country with little economic opportunity.
Tom, were you fighting in Iraq tell me how you'd know the difference between an insurgent and a citizen that appreciated your presence. In all the video I've seen from the area including some chilling ones shot when IED's have gone off, the crowd in the area was pretty much homogenous. The bad guys weren't wearing red scarves or cute little helmets with spikes atop them.
Look back at our military victories Tom. They were all against uniformed armies where it was obvious who the good and bad guys were. Even during our own Civil War the sides still had that "let's show em who we are" mentality. Vietnam changed all that. Guerilla warfare worked and it put the most powerful military into complete disarray. Strike fast and blend back in works so well that it's immune to large and heavily armed forces and time is on the side of the insurgent. There was probably a window of opportunity in Iraq at the onset of this thing but it's long gone now.
Tom, you need to fully embrace the 12-step War Addict Detoxification plan. You're still in the denial stage. It's time to step up on stage and announce to the world that you have a problem.

- Hoyer over Murtha, 149 - 86
- I find Dems not in lockstep refreshing
- Contrast that with the Rs electing Lott.
- I like Hoyer better...
- Actually, this is encouraging.
- Curious as to what makes you think Hoyer is less nutty than Murtha (n/t)
- Symbolism
- What kind of Republicanism does Lott represent, then? (n/t)
- The kind that just got its ass kicked at the polls.
- What is this New Right of which I speak?
