Ah, painting with that broad brush again.

So the people claiming today that we're overreaching had no fear or concern for the Soviet Union? Sure seems like I viewed them as potentially harmful just like everyone else in the country. The "duck and cover" exercises I had to do in grade school to prepare me for the nuclear strike kinda gave me the perspective.

Do you actually believe this babble Tom that someone that doesn't agree with your concept of warfare is oblivious to potential threats from the outside world? You don't read a single word do you? Time and time again your opponents have stressed that they acknowledge the potential risks associated with being a highly visible superpower. Of course there are people out there wishing us harm.

The problem is that you sound as if the world will end if we don't engage in this one mold fits all approach to the problems. In your stated views it seems the only recourse is this preemptive strike against anything with even the smallest iota of threat to us. What nearly everyone else is trying to tell you is that your method never ends and never works. We all suffer from this illusion that simply blowing away all the bad guys buys us peace but most of us wake up from time to time and realize the unworkability of that plan.

What it sounds like to me is that somehow you find some inner calm from perpetual war against your enemies like it somehow makes you more of a man to never back down and reassess your strategy. I don't know where you come up with this illusion that our country is populated by this huge throng of hippies wanting to plant flowers in the ends of gun barrels but I just don't know any of those people. What I know instead is complex thinkers that analyze the complexity of human behavior and see the folly of one-sided thought. Most of their conclusions seem to fall into a category you simply cannot stomach. That must be a horrific burden for you to carry knowing that you're surrounded by such incompetence.
