Everybody in the current military is a volunteer, and the re-enlistment rate is high, even now. Nobody is being drafted, which infuriates the Left to no end, since they made good use of it during the time of the draft.
The bizarre leftist concept that only those who have served have a right to discuss or enact military policy is remarkably flexible, seemingly vanishing during eight years of Clinton's war policies, or when Clinton, an active draft-dodger, was running for re-election against an actual war hero.
One could state that only those who pay taxes should have anything to say about U.S. taxation and spending policies, and it would be as sensible and consistent as your contention.
