"Tens of thousands of U.S. casualties" is highly misleading.
We have around three thousand dead, of which 2,414 died by hostile action. (The average annual military death rate from accident, illness, and homicide between 1980 and 2004 was about 1,200.)
Of the 22,714 wounded, 12,572 returned to duty within 72 hours, leaving 10,142 who did not. The record does not say how many of those returned to duty in more than 72 hours, or how many suffered more serious injuries. About 2.5 percent of the wounded involve some form of amputation, which would be (if the numbers held up over the past year) about 568 members of the military. I haven't found more statistics as yet on this.

- Democrats again call for immediate and unconditional surrender.
- Now wait a second!
- Surrender?
- Bush has had longer than WWII. Iraq had 23 million people, no air force, no navy.
- I'd love to see your definition of "counter-terror" too.
