Frozen tundra from the far North holds in massive amounts of CO2. As the temps rise, even slightly, the warming trend causes a cascade effect releasing more and more CO2 from the thawing ground. The Earth warms, causing more plant life to grow. Increased plants absorb more CO2, and the Earth cools. The plants die...repeat cycle. That's my take on it anyways.
