"Let's not do anything that might inconvenience my business or threaten my profits."
We ARE doing something different: we are dumping enormous amouts of exotic chemistry into the earth's atmosphere and even if there were absolutely no evidence of its harmful effects yet, it would not be an unreasonable assumption to believe they will be evident eventually, perhaps when it is too late to do anything about it.
To disagree about the existence, causes, effects or possible solutions of global warming is natural and wholesome, to insist that we should continue as we are now is irresponsible at best, criminal at worst. This is particularly the case when there are very good reasons besides the environment to control our industrial excrement: politics, economics, public health and natural security come to mind.
Regardless of what eventually resolves itself in this debate, it is clear that those most opposed to consideration of this issue today are those who have a personal financial stake that "nothing be done", and those who have an ideological prejudice in their favor.
Don't piss in the soup, we've all got to eat. And don't expect those of us who have to eat it be the ones to prove it's not safe. The burden of proof is on you.
