The mirror pinciple won't work for her, because she refuses to look. If anything, my daughter makes me proud because she has some of my best characteristics (independent, passionate, proud, capable, well organized, ambitious, stubborn...lol).
Our current problem has to do with her father, which has always been a thorn in our sides. I divorced him 15 years ago, and the conflicts come fom her inability to recognize that that cycle is completed for us.
She also has some of his best chaacteristics. And also, some of his worst. It is those that have created the problem. I divorced him (I can't divorce her....LOL) And I'm sure some readers here may understand where I'm coming from.
By the way, I had the same problem with my mother (years wasted due to difference, indifference), but we buried the hatchet many years ago.
Getting it all out on the table was a painful experience for us. My mother holds some the same qualities I have (stubborness and pride runs in the family...seriously).
I think we could start a whole new thread bringing in family dynamics, and how we resolve/don't resolve them. If there is anything to your "mirror principle", then it is even more obvious when you throw in genetics, eh?
