I've never lost an argument here.

And it's not because I'm smarter, or more articulate or more virtuous than anyone else. I usually can see the other guy's point of view from the start, and I can see (if he's an honest thinker and not just a troublemaking punk) that he often has good reasons for believing the way he does. Just as I do. In matters of politics or ideology there are always two sides to the story, and everything is relative. This is why the obsession with facts and documentation is so pointless, there will always be sources and footnotes you can use to support any position you want. Christ, look at the creationist websites, they're dripping with documentation! In these matters, interpretation is what counts, and interpretation depends on the attitudes you bring to the discussion.

When I get into a fight around here it's not so much because someone says I'm wrong. I don't doubt I'm wrong quite frequently. What really pisses me off is some strutting self-righteous little Nazi bully telling me I have to be wrong because the philosophy I subscribe to is always wrong and can't ever be right. That their philosophy only must be right and that no deviation from it will be tolerated, and further, that I am not only wrong, but I am stupid or evil or both. It's people like this, not the man who has an honest disagreement with me, that tell me there is real evil in the world and it must not be allowed to have its way.
