The only one I recall

was to MA back on the MSNBC board on something about the Roman Empire. It was barely enough to qualify as an argument. It was more like I posted something quite opinionated, she corrected me and I agreed with her. It qualifies because it was a change in something I believed and not just a mental typo. There have been other instances where this or that obvious error has been called to my attention but nothing that rose to the level of an argument.

I can only recall arguing with 4-5 people around here over the years and I neither won or lost. Not a waste of time by any means, just an interesting distraction with nothing riding on the outcome.

Interesting that Tom was mentioned immediately by MA and Laurie. He is phenomenal with facts and is not going to lose many fact based arguments. It will be interesting to see if and how he responds to this and has he ever felt beaten in this venue.

Anyway, in spite of the admissions to losing an argument or two, we all have values sets like truth, honor, courage, empathy etc. that affect our ability or willingness to see truth/facts in the same way. Consequently, arguments/debate on subjects we hold dear do not seem to be a very effective way to solve problems without employing something beyond facts and values.

So what do we do, here and in the world? Maybe we shouldn't hold things so dearly.

Somehow that doesn't sound right.
