Huh?
Where's your passion, man?
If I look at some of the people that are walking assholes in my life (my old boss immediately comes to mind), I doubt I'm going to use the "mirror principle" or look for it in him/me.
An asshole is an asshole (pardon my language).
Idiot isn't much better.
Can you look at an "Islamist" with that mirror principle?
I know you strive to be neutal in your interactions with those here.
And most the time you succeed. I don't think I've ever head you flame anyone or argue brutally, although you come off sounding smug and condescending instead.
Now, THIS is true:
>"The presentation of viewpoints, unemotionally, is the goal, I shoot for. If I get emotional in the presentation of views and/or data - I consider it a loss. Emotions turn people off. They fail to persuade and trigger hostile reactions."
My daughter and I have been going round and round about an event/old wound for the past couple of years that I wanted to heal. So I decided to tackle it yesterday. The first hour was calm, relaxed. The second hour became heated and passionate as neither of us was willing to concede our points. Result?
Probably back to Square One. It's the passion in both of us that finally says we agree to disagree. Neither of us is willing to concede.
That's just the Way It Is.
No mirror principle involved.
However, I agree that most here have been subjected to viewpoints that they have never considered before. In the real world, they would walk away from the orator. In the media, they'd switch the station, ignore it or drown it out. I think one reason we still visit here day after day, is the fact we ARE so very different, and TO PARTICIPATE, we have to actively engage and/or challenge a viewpoint that sounds strange to us.
This place is like the bar in Star Wars.....LOL
Mirror principle, right..........
