...I wasn't saying the commies were environmentalists only that they invented it solely to disrupt western capitalism. They just wanted a movement that could spur Americans to collectively disrupt their industrial wealth machinery. In 1958 they made a dent, and a recession resulted from lower car sales and purchases of other domestic goods. Yet for several years from 1955 the leftists in the media propaganda mills were busy telling Americans their cars were too big, tail fins were a sign they were neurotic materialists.
I had gone into this with "the Hidden Persuaders" post quite awhile back, and that Madison Avenue was under attack from folks who supposedly had Americans best interests at heart by revealing the tricks capitalism uses to encourage spending. But really Madison Avenue was under assault from Gorky Square, who couldn't compete with US industry, and the national wealth it generates, and wanted to throw some cogs into the US machinery.
The same thing is going on today, however now it's not just Russia that wants to see the US' block knocked off, but much of western Europe, South America, Africa, much of the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The US is the target and every factory we move overseas makes us that much weaker economically and materially. "Outsourcing" is a word invented to mask the crippling it does to a company and a nation by redirecting funds and REAL wealth - in the form of factories - overseas.
No, the Russkies were about the dirtiest polluters in the world, as China is today. Most forms of "curb your purchases" Environmentalism was just another bogus psychological warfare tool used to appeal to folks whom really wanted to revert to the womb and who were being trained and indoctrinated to fear competition, "the rat race" and any growing and thriving technocracy. Communists were getting folks to "drop out" of the "rat race" in the sixties.
The only real homegrown environmentalist movement was smog control in the big industrial cities - like Pittsburgh, LA etcetera which definitely needed it.
I look forward to the day the real books can be opened on all the successful movements the Russians started in the United States. However, there are still too many people living, on both continents, who might incur serious fallout. I fgure in twenty years or so, lots of tell all books will finally be published.
I suspect Nixon will be vindicated, in his interpretation of protestors as communist stooges, at that late date as well.
