Off Topic » in reply to Yeah, we can all see how environmentally sound Communist policies were.

The white and the green.

The sources of pollution and environmental degradation are non-political, they are industrial, and all societies, regardless of their politics, have strong incentives to make their industrial operations as short-term efficient as they can, hang the environmental consequences. Consequences will manifest themselves on someone else's watch.

However, the opposition to Green policies IS political, because the environmental movement is now cast as a political conspiracy simply because it advocates policies which are incovenient to capital. Anything which is inconvenient to capital becomes a leftist plot. A leftist regime may pollute, but it will simply evade the issue by claiming the pollution is minimal or exaggerated. A rightist regime will not only make the same excuses, but will put an ideological spin on them to distract others from their own complicity.

It's sad, conservatives used to be in the forefront of the conservation movement. I suppose when only they could afford to travel to pristine areas and enjoy their sport they were willing to fight, even each other, to preserve them. Now its just too unprofitable to save them all.
