Just got a new cheap toaster recently. The old one was one of those that automatically puts the toast down and up, and one day it decided it didn't want to bring the toast up. My dog hates the smoke detector.
The new one you push it down, and it just works.
One of those urban legends that happens to be true is that a Pop Tart (or any generic equivalent) will go up like a load of napalm if it gets stuck in a toaster and starts to burn. This has apparently filtered into the toaster industry.
My new toaster has instructions on settings for various items, like toast or waffles. At the bottom of the list is "Toaster Pastries (such as Pop Tarts)"
Do not heat in toaster -- use toaster oven broiler. If you must use toaster -- ALWAYS set to lowest shade setting. NEVER heat cracked, broken, or warped pastries, and NEVER leave unattended.
Caps in original. Somebody out there got hit pretty hard with the lawyer stick.
