Meade Instruments is a fine example.

They were private up until 1997 when they went public. Meade use to pride itself on making high quality telescopes and binoculars. Since going public, they've begun to make a lot of junk. Cheap telescopes that can be found at Walmart and other discount stores. In order to maximize profits to the Nth degree, there's talk of closing down their Irvine planet and moving to China.

A company that was built and owned by men who loved astronomy and prided themselves on building the best instruments avaliable for amateurs has been twisted and reduced to just another money making operation. Pride and quality have been thrown out the window for maximized profits.
