In fact, his whining libertarian snivelling offends me.
He has every right to protect himself with his firearm, as I claim the right to do so with mine. But he forfeits that right by carrying a concealed weapon into a public place, where no one but he knows he's carrying. That infringes on MY right to go out in public without some knowledge of who is armed around me. I, who own firearms and support my right to employ them to defend my life and property do not have the audacity to wander around into rooms full of strangers with a dangerous weapon hidden in my clothes. That is an imposition on THEIR rights which I do not presume to have the privilege of trampling on.
The reason arms are forbidden in some areas, like airports and classrooms, is so that the authorities will know immediately that any firearm display is illegal and can take appropriate action. It also makes the arrest much easier since their is no fumbling for documentation that has to precede or confuse it. The minute hidden firearms can be legally introduced you never know if that bulge under the armpit or that hard spot in the small of the back is authorized or not. The authorities must view everyone as a potential unknown. It complicates and confuses the tactical situation, and for what? So this cowboy can feel safe? Maybe I don't like the idea of him whipping out his piece whenever he thinks it's appropriate. I trust my ability to use a firearm with restraint, but I have second thoughts on how I might react under stress, I certainly don't trust him. I don't get to vote on his vigilante justice, and maybe I don't trust the fact that because he can afford a license and some classes means he has the judgement and restraint it takes to carry a lethal weapon in public. In my opinion, half the people who get a carry permit just want an excuse to legally shoot someone.
In the eighteenth century men carried a sword on their belt, in the nineteenth, a pistol on their hip, in plain sight for everyone to see. A hidden weapon is a coward's weapon, and the very idea of wanting to carry one without some valid reason (like you're taking the company payroll to the bank) makes me strongly question your motives and your common sense.
I don't understand you, Tom, you don't believe in firearms, you even refuse to use a harmless pellet rifle to run off your potentially dangerous racoon pests, yet you suddenly reach out for this cause, presumably just because you know your position will be opposed by liberals. I expect next your're going to blame this shooting on Clinton.
