Flame » in reply to I'd ALMOST think you believe that silliness. Think for a minute.

Reality check.

In every case you mention as an example, the police ALREADY assume the person is armed, if they've paid any attention to their training. If you stop and think about it, almost any criminal probably is. Talk to a cop.

Let's say you and I have a disagreement. Nothing much, but we yell. I can't turn my back on you and walk away, I could get shot. I have to shoot you first. Have to do it. No choice. No matter how big the argument. Blow your goddamned brains out. Self-defense, I'll say. "He was reaching for a gun, and I got mine first. I don't go looking for trouble, Officer, but when it comes my way I don't run", I'll say.

Guns don't make most normal people insane. Maybe you have a problem with them?

Where I lived as a kid in the Midwest, there were guns everywhere (rifles and shotguns mostly), and nobody needed them for anything except hunting.

The objective of a healthy gun policy is to make sure there are more guns in the hands of trained, good people than there are in the hands of criminals and lunatics. Because the one fact that the anti-gun nuts cannot hammer into their brains is that no matter WHAT policy you have, the criminals and lunatics will always have the guns.
