Let's say you get pulled over for a speeding ticket. The cop has reason to believe you are armed. He will have you sit in the car until backup arrives, and then he will order you, your wife, and your kids out of the car, spread-eagle them, and pat them down BEFORE any discussion of the ticket comes up. Your wife has trouble getting out of the car? Obviously she's malingering to get the drop on them. "I told you lady to get the hell out of that car!!! MOVE MOVE MOVE! NOW!"
Disabled, you say. "EVERYONE SAYS THAT!!!", hollars the cop. And they drag her out.
"Unnecessary force", you say. Your local prosecutor vetted for conservative purity will say that it doesn't look that way to him. You go to civil court, and your local judge, also vetted for conservative purity, will give the cop damages for your malicious suit.
Imagine life if most folks carry guns. Let's say there's a "family disturbance". The police are called. Now, they know that someone is violent, or they wouldn't have been called. Someone is unstable. And probably been drinking.
And that most of these folks are armed.
What do you suppose they'll do?
Let's say there's a guy sleeping in a doorway. Drunk. They know he's probably armed - after all he lives in a very bad neighborhood.
What do you suppose they'll do when the guy reaches around behind him for another pull on the bottle? Give him the benefit of the doubt, or get some paid administrative leave?
Let's say you and I have a disagreement. Nothing much, but we yell. I can't turn my back on you and walk away, I could get shot. I have to shoot you first. Have to do it. No choice. No matter how big the argument. Blow your goddamned brains out. Self-defense, I'll say. "He was reaching for a gun, and I got mine first. I don't go looking for trouble, Officer, but when it comes my way I don't run", I'll say.
The assumption is that every unstable, drunk or loaded person out there has a gun it will be a more polite society. How absolutely stupid can people be? It will be a society of people living in bunkers, justifiably afraid to go outside.
Use your head for something other than a repository for every moronic idea the NRA and GOP can come up with.
