Saddam had turned Iraq into one massive munitions storage dump. Most of the insurgents are former security personnel. They know exactly where many those mortar rounds, artillery shells, land mines, and bombs were buried. Millions of tons of the stuff is inside Iraq. Then you have Syria and Iran supplying them as well.
