Innovation is healthy and keeps a civilization vibrant, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the ties that bind one generation to another. The thread that keeps our civilization from unwinding.
Change is natural. Things do change over time, but we live in a media and consumer culture that demands change for the sake of change. Much of the change that happens in our society is driven by a select few people who's only goal is to make money off the next "Big Thing". It's artificial and contrived. Such change does nothing good for society. Cultural institutions and norms are washed away for the sake of the next fad. Chaos and anarchy replace order and heritage.
