Passivity? Perhaps, but it also says a lot about reaching a consensus.
As we have seen here with a group of more than 3 it is almost impossible to reach a consensus on anything. I'm not certain it doesn't have more to do with contrarianism.
It is also obvious that the guy could have been jumped when he entered a classroom. I like to think that I would have been up for that option and as the 911 flight proved one or two strong voices can make a difference.
