Not sure you got his point

Moore is all about irony. It's part of his way of keeping viewers engaged in a venue that in the past has been mostly about throwing statistics and historical looking video clips at viewers.

I don't for a second think that Moore intended to show that Cuba was some model for freedom and compassion, only to illustrate the irony that the people he found ailing after their sacrifice on 9/11 could actually get their problems addressed quickly in a communist society. In a way I'm really curious how the Cuba thing developed in the film because it appeared he was going a different direction with the whole thing about Guantanamo and the awesome health care available to the terror subjects housed there.

I get the impression that while there, he discovered the access to the Cuban health care system and used it (while they used him for some propaganda). I honestly think that as much as he was looking for impact shots for his film, he also probably bonded with the folks he brought along with him and saw an opportunity to help them. You never hear stories from subjects of his prior films where they felt exploited.

Your anger against Castro is more than justified. He's a tyrant and has brought way more bad than good to that land. However, our isolationist methods certainly have not worked at all. One of the main enemies of a totalitarian society is information. By keeping tourists and businesses out of that land, Castro is free to put out the propaganda he chooses. I think the thing that finally brought down the Soviets was the influx of western society to their citizens, not the military buildups.
