even though it probably wasn't your intention. It just wasn't that the male dancers in HSM appeared effeminate, it's that the dancing in their numbers didn't fit what they were singing. The choreography was simply lousy and contrived.
Watching Kelly and Astaire proved that. The musical number and the dialog that went along with it was goofy at best but the dancing fit the scene to a tee. My mind didn't go anywhere but pure enjoyment of seeing two men at the peak of their talent.
I don't care what the target audience of HSM was. It was dumbed down for any audience. Watch any episode of American Likes To Dance or any of these new reality talent shows and you'll see tons of talented wannabes singing and dancing much better than any scene on that movie.
I simply cannot get any solace out of the fact that a dumbed down movie is inspiring anyone. If it's capable of that feat, then a smart one will inspire more to even higher standards.
