Riiiiiiight.
Jocks in highschool can be threatening, usually because they're bullies and tough-out their competition when it comes to other males. I had the captain of the Wrestling team after me in highschool, but I was already "taken". It was a never ending set of taunts for me and my boyfriend. I remember growing my nails long to claw his face the next time he threw an off color compliment at me (mini-skirts were in back then). I couldn't stand his self-confidence.
Going back to my old home town recently, I found my rather effete 16 yr. old boyfriend as a fully grown masculine man, while he told me the captain of the Wrestling Team was dead....shot dead because he was still muscling his way around, and had gotten fat and lazy in his later years.
Certainly these must be all "trends" that are targeted at certain markets.
