It's called lack of responsibility. No children would result from such encounters and so they were purely about self-pleasuring with no fear of consequences. A more unsanitary version of onanism.

Now there is AIDs and however it came into being, it certainly balances the "no consequences" aspect of such relations.

Sex without procreation is more about self and less about love and sharing. That's why ancient religions shunned birth control, because it simply facilitated lust - a lower emotion and not love. Buggery, onanism were equally forbidden for the same reasons.

Naturally the Catholic family with 12 kids is not necessarily more loving or less lustful than the atheist couple with no kids and condoms at the ready, but the basic indoctrination against birth control, as against God's wishes, has been pounded into them - though really the whys and wherefores, from a spiritual perspective as regards to the individual's personal evolution, have actually been lost.

And to paint conservatives as the proponents of homosexuality in Government is a bit of a stretch for even the most hyperactive imagination.
