on either side of our Revolution could have completely overwhelmed militarily the lands they were within. None of them were the most high tech military on the face of the Earth capable of bringing incredible destruction from afar with the push of a button.
Just imagine a force like that coming into your land and "helping" you to depose a dreaded leader and then seeing your country devolve into utter chaos and violence, creating huge and very permanent-appearing bases for themselves. Imagine watching millions of your best and brightest citizens fleeing for their lives across your borders to escape the pandemonium that's ensued, often to lands where the conditions aren't much better than they were under your evil dictator.
This current situation is unprecedented in any history I've ever read about. To try to equate this mess to our own revolution is a wet dream.
