Flame » in reply to Who's worse - Bush or.....?

Interesting.

You're not the only person I've been reading that calls for understanding and tolerance when talking about someone like Ahmadinejad, but has a furious, unalloyed, unrepressed, and most of all, vocal, hatred of George W. Bush.

There's an essay in there somewhere, but not today.

And no, the "Bush is more dangerous because of the power" gag doesn't sell.

High-pitched rhetoric aside, of these two men only one is likely to blow up a city with an atomic weapon because God told him to, and it ain't Bush. You know it as well as I do. Since September 11th, our country, with Bush in charge, has acted with remarkable restraint. If we didn't blow up a city with a nuke in October of 2001, it ain't gonna happen.

You don't act like a person who is really afraid of someone. You act like a person who knows damn well they can say or do almost anything in this country with perfect safety.

In fact, nobody is really afraid of Bush. Not you, not Lindy, not any of those out there wailing about how the U.S. is becoming a giant concentration camp. You're squealing like people on a roller coaster, or walking through a haunted house at a fair, going through the motions, knowing full well you can make faces at the rubber monsters and nothing will happen. You can call the leadership names, post pictures of their faces on monkeys, call them the worst obscenities you can think of on a world-wide format, and you know down in your bones that there will be no consequences.

There are immigrants in my neighborhood. They're not from Mexico, and they could tell you something about what real fear of a leader is like. For one thing, it's a hell of a lot quieter.
