Seriously considered an ADDITION to home
Spend some bucks and enlarge the family room and make a good fireplace/heating system that will use either pelletized or firewood for fuel. Heat pump will not work up here, and solar hot water arrays are banned in this community along with PV cells on roof. Another idea the kid had was to rip off some sheetrock and super insulate a few key rooms in home (WARM ROOMS) and leave the thermostat down. I dunno, just when you think you get ahead of the heating bill curve, the b@astards raise prices seasonally.
