"CO2 IS a greenhouse gas."
Right. But it's obviously not the major greenhouse gas that creates Earth's greenhouse affect. And without *any* greenhouse affect, Earth would not be warm enough to support multicellular life. The oceans [and of course rivers and lakes] would freeze solid- all you could have was microbial life in some hotspots and beneath the surface.
And of course, CO2 is essential for plants and the animals that eat the plants.
"Humans are releasing large amounts of CO2."
Large relative to what? Total tonnes of CO2 in the atmosphere?
If you were in charge of how much CO2 was in the atmosphere, how much would you want?
Give me a range.
What would lowest level? And why wouldn't you want it lower? What would be the highest level. And why wouldn't want it higher?
Is the only [or main] concern you would have about CO2 levels is global temperature?
Now, cost isn't the issue [as far as this question goes], what is the best quantity of CO2 to have in our atmosphere?
"Humans are, at the same time removing sinks of CO2."
Yes, but how significant is this? What removes the most amount of CO2 from the atmosphere and how does this compare CO2 sinks humans are removing?
"CO2 IS increasing, as verified by numerous independent studies."
Yes. If human didn't exist, how much CO2 would be in the atmosphere at the present, 2007? Would it be lowered than 280 ppm? What's the highest at this point in time might be without human existing? And without humans existing, what highest CO2 could be in next thousand or until next ice age begins.
How much of a possibility would there be that without humans existing on Earth, that at the moment we would be in an ice age? 5%? Less than 1%. No chance?
When in your opinion did humans begin to have any affect upon CO2 in the atmosphere. And was this also the same time that humans had any affect upon the global temperature?
"The data also indicate that this rise is from human activity, not natural causes."
If wood burning was replaced by coal and oil heating would that leave a measurable fingerprint in the atmosphere's CO2?
Btw, how long do you think CO2 molecule on average remains in atmosphere?
"The data also show, as is to be expected, the temperature is rising."
But there doesn't appear to be any accelerated increase in global temperature, for about the last decade it's be flat, yet all these year with China overtaking the US in total CO2 emission and Europe and all other countries unable stop increasing, nevermind decreasing their yearly output of CO2, there doesn't appear to be any direct relationship CO2 levels and global temperature.

- You don't think people should refrain from burning coal...
- If coal is burned properly... The only fumes are a CO2+ a little bit of pure C
- It costs money to burn coal properly, so that would be "economically irrational". (n/t)
- Opps I meant to type: If coal is burned properly... The only fumes are a CO2+ a little bit of pure S
- What I think has little to do with it.
