With government, it's always about power and control.
You might have noticed that if you look at almost any "crisis" we are said to be facing, the answer we are presented with always--always--involves more control over the lives of the average citizen, more restrictions on freedom of choice, and ever more power and wealth taken away from those citizens and gathered in by the central government. This is not confined to one political party, particularly in recent years.
Go ahead, tick off the big issues of the day, and the solutions we are given. Try and find an exception.
