Quoting from the page Lindy linked to:
IF IT IS EXTRATERRESTRIAL, WHAT RESIDUE DOES THAT LEAVE YOU?
Well, I don’t really know. I hadn’t thought about it. I know I do believe in God and I believe in Jesus Christ. I’m a Baptist.
Is he saying because he's a Baptist that he doesn't believe
there is intelligent life elsewhere? If he did encounter an ETI,
would it shatter his world view?
I was raised Roman Catholic. I was once given a catechism
book that had Q&A about all sorts of things. One of the actual
questions regarded whether there was extraterrestrial life. The
answer was that since God could do anything, making aliens on
other planets was not a problem for Him.
The ancients who wrote the Bible never mentioned alien life
because quite frankly that was way out of their areas of
thought. Yes, a few ancient Greek philosophers considered it,
but as the Greeks were dismissed in the Bible for their love of
wisdom, considering alien life would have been thrown out right
along with all their other lines of thought.
I know many people don't study astronomy and don't realize
or appreciate just how big the galaxy is and how many stars
and planets there are, but isn't it time people started becoming
just a bit more aware of these things? What he said in reply
to that question would strike anyone rational as almost a non
sequitor. Time we got out of the Middle Ages, I say.
BTW, I still think what was seen was a new type of military
aircraft, but if it really was a mile long, what are they doing,
developing the aerial equivalent of an aircraft carrier?
