re: Again, the critical word is "voluntary."

The relationship between worker and employer is adversarial, as is the one between buyer and seller. I may have no choice about living in that kind of world, and I might even be clever enough to prosper in it, but I have no illusions about what really drives it: violence.

Sorry, but your attitude kind of stinks. I suspect there's a history behind it.

I have never worked for anyone I didn't get along with fairly well, or at least tolerate. Maybe it was because I didn't think bosses were the Enemy, and I've never thought I had a divine right to a particular job. Or was restricted to only one. Or maybe it's just my natural, quiet, phlegmatic personality.

As for buyers and sellers, have you ever noticed that when you purchase something at a store, both you and the seller say "thank you?" And MEAN it? That you have each given the other something, and both of you believe you have walked away better off for it? That's kind of amazing when you really think about it.

Trade is based on the fact that things have different values to different people at different times. Trade happens when two people decide that what the other person has is more valuable than what they're holding.

But Just to them, just that item, and just at that time. Tomorrow things might be different.

Multiply that event by millions, and you have capitalism, prosperity, division of labor, supply and demand, and people like you and me who have access to thousands of things we could never build on our own, and can trade for them because we have skills that somebody is willing to pay for. It all works marvelously well, and while people point to places where things have gotten rough, they ignore the thousands of places where the system works smoothly.

Trying to control all this centrally is raving insanity, but it never seems to stop people from trying.
