Performed to the rhythm tapped out by your 'betters'.
Look, I love how you assume I'm not literate. I love how you assume that if only I read something, anything, I would be singing in tune with you. I know this will never sink in: but I am every bit as well read up on whats going on as you are. You want to trumpet these small advances to the moon? Okay, go right ahead. But a molehill does not a mountain make. Now, of course, your next rhetorical move is the 'AhHA! You DENY that there has been progress!' Followed by 'SEE! You HATE AMERICA! You WANT us to fail!!! (continue shrieking and howling here)'. Well, so be it, perform your chicken dance, see if I care.
But the point is that it took all of our military might and resources to make only very small headway, mainly just in Baghdad. Remember those Benchmarks? Remember the original theory behind the surge? Remember the political progress we were supposed to see? Very little of this has come about, and now we have no choice but to draw down troops because the troops are exhausted.
I know what has been accomplished. I think with any critical and honest eye, you would have to say its 'not much'. The main accomplishment is that the situation has stopped its deathspiral. But stopping a deathspiral does not create a country, does not satisfy the whole point of the surge and does not help me sleep at night when I think about what this country has gotten into.
Great, so I log on here, f-ing sick to my heart about whats going on and worried how we're going to stay there when our economy is showing very dire warning signs, and I have to listen to you talk about how this whole thing is a marvelous success, how we've hit a home run (again, like what you have been saying every damn week for the last 5 years).
You see- its not what you were thinking 3-4 ears ago that 'I'm stuck on' (as you say), and its not 'Then' that 'the other side' (what the hell does THAT mean?) is stuck on. Is that the tune you are chirping sounds very much like this:
And god knows, that worked out great?
Its not that you were wrong, once, 3 years ago. Its that you and all the other idiots on the right who (remarkably) use the exact same arguments have been wrong and wrong and wrong and wrong and wrong, ad nauseum, for 4 years straight. Ever week, we turned the corner, accomplished the mission, laid out benchmarks for the surge, surged, drew down, surged, took back Iraq for the Iraqis, had the invasion pay for itself, found the WMD just a little to the north of Tikriti, flew over Iraq and observed the peaceful countryside, were greeted as liberators, learned that freedom was messy, etc etc etc etc.
So, forgive me, Tom, if I'm just a little tired of hearing how great everything is from you, and how 'My Side' is just creaming our jeans in anticipation of failure, or howling in agony that 'your side' was rght, or etcetcetc.
Its difficult to come here and even talk to you. You are so damn oblivious to the destruction you and the others have wrought. Those others who use all the same arguments, pseudo-facts, source all the same editorials and use all the same words. Its difficult to listen to you as you talk about the intellectual void on the other side of the table, while you have. been. consistent. only. in. being. wrong.
For people who change facts, reasons, justifications and predictions on an almost daily basis, why can;t you guys get it right just once?
No, the surge has not failed, but only if you ignore all the things it was promised to accomplish and lok t it as damage mitigation. But, now that we can;t maintain it- what happens next?
We lose what we have gained.
And then on Jan 20 2009, it becomes the fault of some democrat.

- "Q: Can newly trained Iraqi forces handle those security problems?"
- re: newly trained? Not always well. The veterans? A lot better.
- Tom, Tom, Tom. The US has been "training" those people for 4 years.
- You have to understand you have no idea what you're talking about.
- You think we have to wait for an Iraqi Eisenhower now?
- re: You think we have to wait for an Iraqi Eisenhower now?
- I have to say I'm with Bowser on this one.

- I just enjoy observing the shields go up.
- I think the original point...
- For you, this is a "that was then, this is now" kind of thing, right?
- "Then" is pretty much all your side has got right now.

- That is just plain nonsense. The same nonsense, over and over for years.
