Let's first figure out how much artillery, air power and foreign troops are supporting the insurgents, who won? With all that help for the Iraqis, 4 Boy Scout Troops with one Brownie Pack ferrying cookies to the front should have been able to do it.
You like to compare Iraq to WWII. How fast were the Germans or Japanese policing themselves after WWII? How much training did it take? How fast were the French policing themselves after the German invasion? For that matter, was it safe for a German soldier to walk down the street in an occupied country? (Sure, the Germans retaliated, but what do Americans do? White phosphorous, napalm, 500# bombs, Abu Ghraib. We're no better, and still it's not safe.)
We've heard the same excuses over and over and over. And we've heard there is nothing but "progress" over and over and over. Oh, mistakes have been made, but we're progressing.
It's really, demonstrably bullshit, you know. After 5 years of this "progress" to say there hasn't been enough time is silly.
