My calculations...

...are based upon profiteering. Once consumption demands exceed supply manufacturers and oil suppliers have never ceased to astronomically loot their customers since they discovered they could around 1991. Any excuse, no matter how feeble, has resulted in 50 cent- 1.00 a gallon price hikes over a period of days or weeks. Almost NONE of these excuse ever seriously impaired supply but were all about perceived supply issues. The companies never have failed to hype the tiniest news item in the Mideast into a 20 cent hike.

Once supply really would not meet demands, then the sky is the limit to their greed - they would most assuredly jack up several dollars nearly instantly, raking in windfall profits on oil they spent not a penny more for to refine or purchase.

Speculation and hype would reign and 9.75 a gallon at peak "generated hysteria" would not surprise me. It would level off fairly quickly to make "6.00" seem inexpensive. Perception is the game they play and they will make even more money on the 6.00 gas as folks run out to fill their tanks after the price decrease.
