Now it's clear

We really are miscommunicating.

I created the index pages on October 25, 2006, by running multiple SQL queries on the message index that specified the board and a date range. Since that table was just intended for cross-referencing, the generated index lacks such amenities as the author. The key field was last-modified, indicating the last posting date and thus last activity on the thread. So the index pages each cover the month indicated, in terms of last activity.

Those are artificial pages, not generated by the usual TOC system, so I can't tell you how to translate it into a hacked TOC URL. If you posted your message near the end of a month, its thread might be on the next month's page.

FWIW, I'd do it differently these days. I'm sure you've heard of REST, since you mentioned "semantic web" in a post recently. I'd make the TOC URLs fully hackable, as part of the message API. "habitablezone.com/currentevents" using a GET returns the latest index, tacking on dates produces a date range. GET habitablezone.com/currentevents/443225 retrieves that message. POST habitablezone.com/currentevents starts a thread, POST habitablezone.com/currentevents/443225 appends a message to a thread...Und so weiter...
