Few societies do more to help those in need than ours does. About two thirds of the Federal budget is dedicated solely to this, never mind what's done at local levels and by private charities.
Sounds like another advocate for the "Robin Hood Principle," which basically goes as follows:
You have something I don't. I believe I need it more than you do. Therefore I am going to take it from you.
This is the moral code of the guy who holds you up at the ATM machine. It is also the moral code of the socialist, who simply changes it slightly to "I believe others need it more than you do."
I could fill a stadium with the writings that try to justify this action, and even promote it to a moral virtue. To do this, concepts like individualism, ownership, earning, free will, initiative, and other things have to be obliterated.
The idea that someone may actually deserve their success has to be wiped out, replacing it with utter bullshit like "genetic injustice" or "luck of the draw." The end result is a worldview where all success is, by definition, unfair or obtained by evil actions. "All property is theft."
Then robbing the wealthy ceases to be robbery, but becomes honorable recompense. The robber becomes a hero, particularly when he distributes wealth he never created and never could, to people who will reward him with power.

"No decent society can help those who fail to stay equal." Same ridiculous strawman.
