Maybe a simple perspective shift is all you need to see what it is we're getting at. You see collectivist ideologues eager to hamstring industry and commerce in order to exert their power and control. Couldn't it just possibly be the other way round, with commercial organizations infiltrating and molding government through the tried and true political and very traditional means (lobbying, campaign contributions, PR, and now, the right wing press)? It's not like there are no precedents, is it?
After all, individual government bureaucrats and leftist ideologues may well seek to enhance their personal careers by being parasites on business, but large commercial organizations would have much bigger goals than a bigger paycheck and a corner office, we're talking billions in contracts, and they would hire professionals whose job it is to steer government business their way. They have the means, the motive, and in a Republican administration, even more of an opportunity than the Democrats (who are no by means immune to this kind of skullduggery either). This is what Washington and the Beltway Bandits are all about.
You see this as some sort of ideological struggle, which makes you the right wing equivalent of the tree-huggers and rock star liberals. No, this is about big money, planetary engineering for profit and world commerce. The lefties are really too chicken-shit to do this kind of planning and financing and power-brokering. What runs this universe are enormous souless organizations with very big appetites, and the men who administer these elliptical connections are not idealogues or even necessarily conservatives, they are paid professionals who have been selected for by a ruthless Darwinian process to be very good at what they do: make things happen. This isn't corner furniture store capitalism, TB, small firms competing with each other for the customer's business. This is the true collectivist monster you have always feared but never really thought through.
