Robert's nailed it, and in order to avoid seeing that, you have to put words in his and my mouths, and thoughts in our heads, that will deflect the criticism.
I can't speak for Robert, but as for myself, I do not see the government as either hero or victim, I see government as an extension and servant of capital. The control of capital over government is not absolute, we still have elections and a constitution, but capital will do what it can to extend that power and consolidate its control. And in a democracy, it is is the duty of the people to put stop to it.
After eight years of Reagan and almost as many of Bush, your libertarian utopia is no closer now than it ever was. It simply is not profitable for big business to let it happen, although it is as appealing to the useful idiots on the right as the welfare state is to those on the left. Sure, Bill Gates gets hammered in the hearings, but the President and Vice President are former oil executives. The Financial-Industrial complex has never been bigger and fatter than it is right now, but it looks like its starting to suffer from from a terminal case of gout.
