Inevitable?
I suppose it was inevitable because my European ancestors made it so. But I've sometimes wondered what would those societies have become if Europe and the rest of the world just stayed home. It's a tragedy of unimaginable scope that we'll never find out. (Sorry, not trying to hijack the tread.)
