In an increasingly industrialized world, Afghanistan's youth will be doomed to lead impoverished lives, lacking the education to participate. As you know, poverty is often blamed for societal ills. You give the lack of medical care as a good example. They will have neither the skills to become doctors, nor will they have the financial wherewithal to hire doctors from elsewhere. They will forever be indebted to, perhaps enslaved by, the generosity of others. To suggest we should leave them to this future, because they are happy to live like this, is to suggest a quarantine of Afghanistan. After all, their drug trafficking and terrorism does nobody any good.
