Review the historical British, Russian and recent American efforts in Afghanistan.
The methods used by Americans don't and never have worked there. And yet the motto seems to be, "If It Doesn't Work, Try It Harder".
The current administration has ignored the lessons of history, even recent history, even from it's efforts in the area. Just plain ignored them.
And you are correct. They are repeating history, and even worse, creating that which it seeks to destroy.
A tragedy for all sides.
