But religious fanatics were in control in Afghanistan when Al-Quaida attacked the U.S.

Are you suggesting that their culture had already sustained some kind of cultural damage from western capitalist colonization and that is why they had religious fanatics running the country?

Or are you suggesting that religious fanaticism is their culture, which they are somehow defending by launching pre-emptive strikes against "westerners" on the other side of the planet?
