Demographic changes in America may doom the Republican Party

America grows more diverse but the GOP doesn’t

Barely 1% of the GOP delegates at this week’s convention are Black and only about 5% are Hispanic. By comparison Blacks and Hispanics make up nearly 30% of America’s population, and their numbers are growing. Obama currently leads McCain by about 95-5 among Blacks and about 70-30 among Hispanics. Both margins are better for the Democratic candidate than the last two Presidential elections.

McCain has of course made a cynical ploy for “diversity” by naming a female running mate – but one whose extremely conservative social and religious views are shared by just a small minority of women in America. Less than 1 of 5 women in America favor an outright ban on abortions, after all. And polling indicates that Obama enjoys a 20 point lead among younger women between the ages of 25-45.

By 2042, white non-Hispanics will be a minority in America. Long before then, the nearly all white Republican Party, which appears to be incapable of achieving any real diversity within its ranks, will have become hopelessly outnumbered in national elections.
