So we have different views of where the pendulum is.

Why should that be so surprising?

I see evil capitalists manipulating the government.
You see an evil government inviting manipulation.

I submit we view these very similar propositions so differently for psychological or cultural reasons. You view the ability to engage in economic activity to be a precious human right, and any interference with that is a direct attack on your freedom.

For me, economic activity is a secondary part of my life, just a means of acquiring the necessities of life and a few luxuries. Since I have not succeeded in my careers of choice, astrophysicist or ship's master, it really means little to me how I earn my living, as long as it's fairly easy and enjoyable and pays well, not that I really need that much, by the standards of my society. I don't mind pulling my load, but I do not want to be cheated out of my share.

You see the ability to conduct business an arena for self-actualization, no matter what it is you are doing. I see it that way only if I am doing precisely what I want to spend my life doing, which I'm not, so it really doesn't matter that much to me. I've given up on self-actualization and am happy with a quiet competence, the respect of my peers, and the prompt fulfillment of my obligations.

Consequently, you feel yourself threatened by any force or agency that potentially limits your freedom of action. I feel threatened by those who are not satisfied with with their freedom of action and always want more. You don't trust umpires, I don't care much for sports. You don't like the coercion of government, I mistrust the social and economic power of commerce. Basically, I view the economy as a means to organize labor and resources. You see it as an arena for human growth and development.

These are not rational positions, they are lifestyle choices.
