"You have never been to a peace church, have you?"

Peace church:
"Peace churches are Christian churches, groups or communities advocating Christian pacifism. The term historic peace churches refers specifically to three church groups: the Church of the Brethren, the Mennonites, and the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)."

In my life, I have failed to use my many Sundays to attend any kind of christian church. And this lack of church going also applies to all the other days of the week.

"Let's not go on with this stupid assumption that opposition to armed violence is unprincipled as a matter of course."

How can "we go on" with it?
Who is saying [or ever has said] that any kind of opposition to anything has been unprincipled?

I have no idea whether or what Ayers' principles may or may not have been.
I know the obvious: that he has favored the use of violence in order to to achieve an objective [and this objective involves gaining power].
And one must not forget the context of this: there is and was a realistic option *particularly* in America [and particularly for people in a more privileged social position that Ayer was born to] to have the potential to use ones words instead of using violence to achieve political goals. So, Ayers among the millions of people living in America had the least "excuse" to resort to violence to achieve political ends.
Now perhaps his "excuse" was he considered himself smarter and therefore more entitled/destined to use violence [which would be exceedingly idiotic- and yes, *that* does begs the question in regards to what his principles are- and would, assuming one is rational, be considered an obvious failure in terms of Quaker principles].
