More on Ayers here. From August of 2001. Obama was on the Woods Fund board with Ayers for several months after this photo was taken.
Another article from September 2001 in the New York Times is here. The date is coincidental--certainly the interview and publication schedule were done some time before Sept. 11.
"I don't regret setting bombs."
He has now been lovingly taken into the "progressive" fold as a fine, upstanding citizen. All is forgiven.
Just think about that abortion clinic bombing scenario I mentioned. Try and imagine someone who had bombed abortion clinics decades ago teaching at a university. Try and imagine someone who had bombed abortion clinics even applying to work at a university. Imagine sitting in his classroom, while he tells you that's all behind him, but "he has no regrets" or "I don't regret setting bombs" or "it was a joke."
Apparently some terrorists are more equal than others, and some targets more acceptable than others.
You might want to consider a philosophical and academic culture that puts this kind of activity on the same moral plane as someone who did panty raids as a student.
I think what happened with Obama and his campaign is that they never expected this to be an issue. They look at someone like Ayers, and go "so what?" They honestly have no more problem with this guy than Obama used to have, and are scandalized that anyone else might.
Incidentally, you don't make nail bombs for "property damage."
