Tom's really pretty good natured. He and I have had the same conversations as are you and he now years and years ago.

One of Tom's tactics is to regard any Conservative crime as over and done, old news. For instance, once Abu Ghraib had been mentioned anything further on it was a politically motivated attack by a biased liberal media.

A few pictures would have sufficed. Publishing more was simply political.

The US provocations in the Middle East, including the overthrow of the democratically elected Iranian Mohammed Mossadegh to install the Shah and train his SAVAK in methods of torture are old news. They should have been forgotten long ago, as have Americans. They should love us now. That was then, and they should shape up and be friendly in the face of US and Israeli threats to their existence.

Kicking down the doors of Iraqi houses and arresting all males for an indefinite period of time is simply the way it goes. Tough, it's in their best interests in the long run. And they are ingrates.

Those rotten Vietnamese tortured Americans. They were truly badguys. However, Americans don't torture and when the do it's always a ticking bomb situation. There are thousands upon thousands of ticking bombs out there, each one requiring non-torturous activities such as waterboarding.

He believes that. It's his nature. To expect him to see America as one nation among many is futile. It's not personal, he's not being hostile.

America is a noble, peaceful country which is forced into acting like the badguys by their behavior.

None of that is going to change. it's not personal.

No, I don't understand it, either. I'm just on the cusp of accepting it as immutable.
