(targeted) government spending produces more jobs than tax cuts.
Yes, tax cuts stimulate the economy. They just don't do as good a job as government programs to build roads and schools and extend unemployment benefits, etc.
We are in some serious trouble here. We are going to hear a lot of bad economic news in the months ahead. Our stimulus package was smaller than we need. It was made less effective by including tax cuts. We can get more out of the money we spend on it if we directly create jobs.
It is as simple as that.
